Biography

Blackened seemed to have come out of nowhere (and disappear just as abruptly), but the truth is that every member of the band had been involved in the independent music community for the last decade and a half. The all-star lineup boasted current and former members of Hatebreed (Bassist Chris Beattie and original drummer and founding member Dave Russo) as well as Connecticut alum, including vocalist Jay Reason (The Distance) and guitarist Chris Legg (Fastbreak). Blackened exceled at combining the roots of traditional hardcore with the sheer brutalness of metal. In their short existence, Define The Meaning said "I can definitely see them being the next big hardcore act to break out." Similar noteworthy press came in from Alternative Press, PunkNews.org, HardTimes.ca, and several respected publications. The bands sole-release, appropriately titled "This Means War" was released in 2009 and engineered and produced by the metal god Zeuss at his Planet Z Studios in western Massachusetts. Never officially breaking up, we've got our fingers crossed for more Blackened shows in the near future!
